Like most gearheads, Jack Roush enjoys engines of any kind and speed at any level. Perhaps no one knows more about getting a Ford around a racetrack quickly than this guy. And for years, some of the nastiest, most powerful and most spectacular blue ovals ever built have come out of Roush Performance in Livonia, Michigan. One of only 60 Roush Touring Coupe's produced, this supercharged 'stang provides an excellent mix of race-winning power and choice two-lane athleticism. STRIKING PRESENCE

Number 14 of only 60 Roush Touring Coupes assembled, and one of only 13 founded on Ford's brilliant Torch Red 2-stage, this polished Ford pony is a pampered specialty car that's logged just 11,058 miles in roughly 14 years. The car's body is 100% straight with no history of accidents or damage of any kind, and a close look down its fuselage reveals not so much as a dent or ding anywhere. Glossy, Roush-sprayed black caps a silver Roush stripe, which blends seamlessly with one of Ford's reddest reds. And overall, this coupe conveys a premium sense of collectability that, when combined with its spectacular performance, creates a timeless modern classic.

Despite being exclusive to the 2009 model year, the RTC Mustang wears a roster Roush upgrades that are both familiar and attractive. At the front of the car, a Roush high flow grille complements factory black-bucket headlights, which cap a requisite Roush aero valence that's finished with an aggressive chin spoiler and bright fog lamps. Above that grille, a sculpted GT hood anchors a prominent, “ROUSHCHARGED” branded scoop in front of a “ROUSH” branded windshield. That screen leads a professionally tinted greenhouse that's complete with factory mirrors and optional Roush quarter window covers. Below that glass, bright RTC emblems join traditional Roush Performance emblems to lead Torch Red rockers and Torch Red door handles. And at the back of the car, a Roush-branded valence centers pristine factory taillights between a Roush aero wing and a stylized bumper that's fashioned around polished exhaust tips.

ROUSHCHARGED

Even though this Mustang is technically Roush's version of a touring coupe, nothing rolling out of the company's Michigan headquarters has ever been confused with an underpowered, Old World cruiser. Under the hood, Ford's smooth 4.6 liter Mod Motor V8 utilizes a coated Roushcharger to spin a stout 435 horsepower into 400 lb./ft. of tire-turning torque. Produced by the pros at Eaton, that blower mixes trick TVS Technology with an air-to-liquid intercooler to ensure solid power anytime and anywhere. Wind is collected through a Roush Cold Air induction system and, naturally, funneled through a precise Roush Performance intake. Despite Ford's 4.6 liter being a capable and attractive mill as is, a beefier cooling system, a recalibrated ECM and a full set of billet Roush caps were implemented to aid both performance and aesthetics. An optional Roush strut brace turns down the twist. On the radiator support, a Roush Performance badge verifies this Mustang as number 14 of the 200 RTCs that were planned. And on the car's inner fender, you'll find a second metal plate that's engraved with the signature of the technician who hand-assembled the engine.

MADE FOR TOURING

One of the most substantial differences between the Roush Touring Coupe and Roush's other curve carvers is suspension. While the Stage cars, P-51 and Black Jack all get stiff, track-ready Roush set-ups, the RTC retains Ford's Mustang GT suspension with the exception of Roush progressive rate lowering springs. This affords softer on-road driving characteristics that, while still plenty sharp at the track, are much better suited for hours of two-lane bliss. Naturally, manually-selected cogs come courtesy of a Ford-supplied Tremec 5-speed. That box twists torque to a familiar 8.8-inch axle that's stuffed with a limited-slip differential and spry, 3.55 gears. Turns come easy, thanks to power rack-and-pinion steering. Braking is handled by power-assisted discs. Spent gases are whisked away by an optional Roush exhaust system that, with the help of aftermarket converters, sounds downright predatory. And power is put to the pavement through forged Roush blades, which spin 255/35ZR20 BF Goodrich g-Force Comp 2s around chromed spokes.

LIKE A GLOVE

Steal one glance through the doors of this clean coupe and you'll find an attractive Dark Charcoal cockpit that mixes standard Ford convenience with many thoughtful upgrades. The seats are sporty leather buckets that wrap predictable red stitching around suede, Roush-branded inserts. Front and center, a monochromatic dash hangs Roush electroluminescent telemetry next to cool air conditioning and crisp Shaker 500 audio. An optional Roush Short-Throw Shifter surfs a clean console between Roush floor mats, Roush door sills and optional Roush pedals. The driver spins factory Cruise Control around a standard tilting column. And naturally, all the amenities you've come to expect in a modern classic are present and accounted for.
